Create South Conference
Wed, Apr. 9 2008
The Grand Strand Bloggers are proudly hosting the CREATE SOUTH New Media Conference April 19th, 2008 from 9AM-5PM. CREATE is an acronym. It stands for Carolina Regional Exposition of Art Technology, and Education. We are up and running. Registration is free and you can do so at the home page.

Here is my buddy Dave Slusher's take on the expo. I scraped this from his blog. I hope you don't mind Dave, but you said it so well.....

CreateSouth, New Media Conference in Myrtle Beach April 19th Posted on March 14, 2008 Filed Under conferences, myrtlebeach | OK kids, registration for the CreateSouth conference is open for business! The conference is April 19th from 9 to 5 PM in downtown Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. All attendees are invited, whether you live and breath new media or are interested but slightly frightened by it. If you are a professional journalist or a politician or a pastor or a musician and want to learn how to make new media work in your career, this is for you. If you have wanted to blog or podcast or videoblog but aren’t sure where to start, this is for you. The goal of this conference is to get the newbies and the wizards together in the same room, talking and hanging out and sharing meals. Our focus is hands on demonstration and we are assembling the program right now to reflect that. The idea of the conference is that if there is some project you want to do but haven’t tackled because the learning curve is too high, you should walk out of the conference knowing where to start and maybe with an email address or three of people that can help you if you get into trouble. Everyone is welcome that wants to travel to Myrtle Beach in April, but our primary geographic target is the southeast. If you live in the Carolinas or Georgia or Tennessee and are interested, tell your friends, carpool and share a room, come and have a big time with us. We picked April because it is the part of the year when hotels are still considered “out of season” and thus cheaper but the weather has a strong probability of being beautiful. You can bring your whole family. Those who are interested can attend the conference and for those who aren’t, the beach is two blocks away from the site. There is more miniature golf than you can shake a tiny putter at, water parks and movie theaters and all kind of attractions within a few miles of the conference. We really need a push from the blogosphere to get the word out. Please link to the CreateSouth website, talk it up, tell your friends, suggest programming items you’d like to experience and volunteer to present ones that you know. This is a grassroots conference organized by the Grand Strand blogging community so there is no large organization behind it, just a few individuals who want to make this happen. My unofficial description is that “the Grand Strand Bloggers are throwing themselves a party and seeing who dances.” Come dance with us, friends. *********************** We hope to see you here!

I have been invited to play a few songs from my new album, Well Enough Alone, at the Sick Stooges holiday bash at The Venue in North Myrtle Beach. My brother Roger plays keyboards in Sick Stooges, and he will be backing me up for my set. The festivities kick off at 8pm. I should be playing about 9:45 or 10pm, but the night belongs to the Sick Stooges. Come out and have some fun. Original folk rock from me, and kick ass classic rock from Sick Stooges. New Media Conference in the works for Myrtle Beach
Thu, Nov. 29 2007
A Myrtle Beach New Media conference is in the works! A few of us got together this evening and hashed around a few ideas. I have taken the liberty of copying Dave Slusher's post from our Grand Strand Bloggers site, as he very eloquently summed up where we're at so far... Take it away Dave....... The Conference is On and We Need a Name November 29th, 2007 by dave A group of us Grand Strand bloggers got together tonight to discuss whether or not to pursue a new media conference in Myrtle Beach this spring. We kicked around the pros and cons, best and worst cases and decided we can live with them all. In other words, it is on! We’re looking at April 2008 with an exact date to be pinned down shortly and tentative space to be secured. We’re not sure what to expect on turnout and are building in mechanisms to allow us to scale up if we exceed our attendance predictions, etc etc. All details will start to take shape soon. Further updates will be posted to this blog so subscribing will be the best way to find out what is happening. The first order of business is to pick a name for this conference so that we can register a domain and go forward. We are accepting nominations until midnight EST on Wednesday December 6th. After that, we’ll put up a poll for voting until the following Sunday. Whatever wins we will roll forward with. Please leave your nominations in comments, second other suggestions and make your opinions known. For those of you with your own blogs, please publicize our current nomination process and that fact we are going for it. Everyone is welcome, but we are particularly focusing on the magic circle of about 3ish hours driving distance, which includes roughly south to Savannah, west to Augusta and north to Raleigh or so. Thanks to everyone whose enthusiasm and interest made us decide to go forward. We’ll do our best to have a shindig everyone learns from and everyone is proud of.

In Distress
Sat, Oct. 13 2007
sending out a message i'm in distress the little devils think that heaven bless them my eyes are open but i see no solution we waste our efforts on a mass revolution i see the trouble and it's lying within you play the game but you just can't win i got a book off a dusty shelf it said you can't change the world 'till you change yourself i can feel myself changing isn't that what you told her and i can't hear what you're saying 'cause you're saying it backwards sending out a message i'm in distress... tides are turning it's a question of power people change with the needs of the hour the situation's blown all out of proportion the sea of life is in a state of abortion i see the rupture at the base of the tower it's gonna crumble like the actors in power i'd like to talk to you for one more minute the boat is sinking and we're dying in it i can feel myself changing isn't that what you told her and i can't hear what your saying 'cause you're saying it backwards sending out a message i'm in distress... From an old song of mine by the same title. I'll have to dig up the old tapes. Seems kind of appropriate now as it was then. To me, anyway.

Good Day
Sat, May. 5 2007
I spent the day laying down some tracks, editing, and generally tweaking some music. It was a good and productive day. When I am immersed in music, I tend to lose track of time. I had a whim to edit a certain song of mine, and after a little while, I got it nailed. I was wondering if I could successfully remove part of a verse which I thought was redundant. It turns out that it worked out very well. It was a learning experience, and it feels great to actually be taking the bull by the horns and figuring out how to master all this stuff. Onward and upward!
Boston - Day Three
Tue, May. 1 2007

I copied this from my Moleskine... Newbury Street is lovely. It’s a sunny morning and people are out and about. Katie and Betsy are going in and out of shops. I am out on the sidewalk and smoking my small Stanwell travel pipe with a lovely bowl of Tinder Box’s Chartwell blend in it. Now that we are out and about and the sun is shining, I have to say I like this town. It’s diverse and thriving. Yesterday was cold and miserable, but we were unprepared for the weather. Had we been more warmly dressed with better rain gear we would have faired better. This is a real city, folks. I could get used to being in the thick of things again. The vibe is so different. I am using a solar-powered trash compactor as a desk right this moment. Very innovative and forward thinking, I must say. It’s just so refreshing. On plane to Charlotte… I think we all enjoyed our short trip to Boston. I could tell that this is a city I’d love to come back and explore in more detail next time. Perhaps it’s time to get my act together and take it on the road.
Boston - Day Two
Fri, Apr. 27 2007
Today we went to Boston University. We took a walking tour of some of the Campus. It was rainy and cold. Bob Saget and his daughter were in our group, which I found quite random. I don’t think anyone recognized him except Katie and me. It was so rainy and hectic that Betsy didn't really notice him until Katie mentioned it. This was the second time I bumped in to the guy. The first time was back when I was working for Capitol Records in Hollywood. I guess he was setting something up for some sort of practical joke for a show, and he was using either our building, or the parking lot for his prank. It's funny how life is. After that we ate lunch at a little Irish Pub called the Black Rose. We did some shopping at the Quincy Market. It was fun. My legs are sore from what walking we did. That tells me how much I need to get in shape. After we rested up back at the Hotel, we walked down Commonwealth Avenue to a nice Thai place called Bamboo. Then we ambled back up to the room and now we are chilling out. We were thinking of going over to Harvard for fun tomorrow, but I think we have decided against that in favor of sticking around here and doing a little relaxing. Newbury is the name of the area that we are going to explore tomorrow. We have to be at the airport by five, so our time is a bit pinched, as we have opted to ride the trains instead of renting a car.
Boston - Day One
Thu, Apr. 26 2007
The girls and I made it safely to Boston, thank God. We went on a tour of Boston College. I have to say it's a beautiful and exciting school. Tomorrow we are going to check out Boston University. The schools seem to have very distinct vibes. We'll know more of course after tomorrow. So far, this has been a very positive experience. Time permitting, we plan on doing a bit of sightseeing. I want to poke around in some historical stuff, and we'll walk around downtown. My daughter Katie has saved up a bit of cash and wants to do some shopping. I'll have some pictures up in a few days. Right now we're beat, so I'm going to say goodnight.
BOSTON
Tue, Apr. 24 2007
BOSTON The girls and I are getting ready for a quick trip to Boston. Katie is interested in checking out Boston University, and Boston College. This is the first college exploratory trip (not counting when we were in LA over the Christmas break; We had a superficial scope-out of UCLA) we have embarked on. We'll be there Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and we have a lot of things to cram into those days. I have never been to Boston or the Northeast in general, so I am keen to check it all out. I know there is a very vibrant music community up there, but I won't be able to see to much of that on this go-round. All I know is, if Katie does decide to and gets accepted by either of those schools, I'll have to sell a kidney or something! She is a fantastic student, so I'm sure things will work out whatever the case may be. I'll keep you posted....

Betsy and I checked out the fantastic Social Distortion at the House of Blues last night with my buddy Jeff Schleuning and his sister April, who we just met prior to the show. Social D rocked! Loris Bog - Off
Sat, Oct. 21 2006
Like Chicken Bog? I do. Of course, when it comes to food, there's not much I don't like. Anyhow, The little town of Loris hosts an annual Bog-Off, in which those who fancy themselves bog experts compete against one another to make the best chicken bog in the land. It's an all day affair with entertainment and crafts and such. Loris is a nice little town. This is actually the first time we have had a chance to make it down there. It's a beautiful day, so, what the heck! I had never heard of this dish until I became a resident of the Grand Strand. You don't find much chicken bog in Hollywood.

Tidying Up
Fri, Sep. 29 2006
I have decided to get back to work on some recording. I want to finish up my CD, which I put on ice a while ago for various reasons. I have been going through the files on my Yamaha AW2816, my digital multitrack, and basically cleaning up the drive and optimizing it for further work. There was a lot of junk on it. I basically took everything off of it except the files for the potential CD, and one or two new song ideas I have been working on. I backed up everything and defragged the drive. It feels good to tidy up. I'm also looking to buy a bass. I do most tracking myself. My buddy Brandon Graham let me use his bass for over a year, but he needed it back. I love playing bass. As I am the dummer also, I feel I can really lock in to what I'm plaing on drums, since, well, it's me also. I am in my head (except when I'm not). It's just another expression. But hey, whatever the song calls for, I'm after. I want to get this done so I can start a project with my brother Roger. It's time for us to put our heads around some collaboration on originals.

I'm back in recording mode. I'll keep you posted. This time of year makes me anxious to do some serious tracking.

Wassup Yale Bros? An update.
Mon, Oct. 10 2005
Rog and I are moving forward with rehearsals and starting to get a groove and a voice together again. It reminds me of Hollywood in the late 1970's when we used to rehearse in an unused office in Mystic Recording Studios, owned by my Dad's Friend Doug Moody. It was an old 16 track facility steeped in history. A funky old studio to be sure, But a wonderful experience. That is where two young twins gelled as musicians and fell in love with the whole studio environment, and writing and recording in general. It also gave us the impetus to get out and play when the walls started closing in. ... Anyway, rehearsals are regaining that vibe.
